8 Ways to Beautify Your Home This Weekend
Want to make your home a beautiful retreat, but short on time? Check out these 8 simple ways to make your home beautiful this weekend with time to spare.I'm always looking for quick ways to make our home a relaxing oasis, but with the everyday tasks and a busy toddler to take care of my to-do list keeps getting put on the back burner. These tips and tricks are a surefire way to get the ball rolling and make sure you get the beautiful home you deserve.1. Ditch the Clutter.

Depending on how much you like to shop and keep things, this could be a doozy. However, I put it first because you need to know what you are working with. Clutter causes stress. It blocks you mentally and makes it hard to relax. When your home is in order, you can actually enjoy the space around you. If this is a big project for you, start with one room per weekend. Go through EVERYTHING in it. Create 3 piles - keep (for everything you absolutely love or use regularly), donate (items you do not love or rarely use), and toss (items that are broken, stained, or non-functioning). Throw away the toss pile first. Next, box up the donation items and get them out of your house right away. Finally, evaluate what you have left and put everything away. Anything you choose to keep should have a specific place it belongs in your home.
2. Simplify Your Bookshelf Displays.

Resist the urge to stuff your bookshelves to their maximum capacity. Instead, create some white space and order by only filling them with choice pieces. Do you have items you collected from travels that you want to show off? How about a favorite family photo or heirloom? Giving these items more space on your bookshelf will give them more importance and put a smile on your face every time you look at them rather than getting lost amongst the chaos.
If you're bookshelf is in an office or study, you may need the storage it affords. If that is the case, consider grouping your books by color or size. This will visually help keep order and a cohesive look in the space.

3. Create a Dramatic Focal Point.

Not only can this project be completed quickly and affordably, it will make a big impact on your room. Blank walls are not homey or inviting so artwork is a must. Unfortunately it can also be expensive. This however is not. Simply take a free photo (an original of yours or one from the internet with a creative commons license - Flickr is great for this!) and have it blown up in color or black and white. Depending on how big your wall is you can either print the photo in 3 pieces or cut it up before framing. Then use inexpensive matching frames from IKEA to complete the look.
4. Rearrange Your Furniture.

One of the easiest ways to revive a space is to re-arrange the furniture. Start by defining the function of the room you want to change. What is it used for and by whom? Once you've determined it's purpose, get honest with what needs to be there and what doesn't. Take out anything that no longer supports the function of the room. If you're missing an important piece, go hunting around your house before purchasing a new item. You might be amazed to discover an amazing piece that was being overshadowed somewhere else. Be patient with the process of moving things around and take a few minutes to "sit" with each new arrangement before moving it again. If you want to dive deeper, this write-up on Houzz has a lot more detail.
And don't underestimate the impact of bringing furniture away from the walls or setting pieces at an angle. This will often create more interest in the room visually and make the space more intimate.
5. Create a Gallery Wall.

Another great way to make a visual impact is to create a gallery wall. You can be symmetrical and use photos of all the same size and shape. You can pair decorative items with photos like initials, keys, mirrors, wooden signs and canvas word art. You can group a collection together and hang plates or framed comic books. The possibilities are endless and you are only limited by your imagination.
6. Paint the Cabinet Interiors.

We all know that paint is one of the easiest ways to transform a space, but have you ever thought about using this tip on the inside of your kitchen cabinets? I had not either until I saw this post. Now, I can't wait to try it when we get to our kitchen remodel.
7. DIY Stainless Steel Appliances.

Want a kitchen makeover, but don't have the budget for stainless steel appliances? Good news is you can fake it with peel and stick stainless steel film! Basically it works just like contact paper and gives your kitchen an instant facelift for a fraction of the cost and hassle of getting new appliances. I'm sold.
8. Paint Your Bathroom Tile Instead of Replacing it.

Another great way to get the look of new without actually replacing anything is to paint the ceramic tile in your bathroom. Make your bathroom look 30 years younger in one day. Just make sure you use the proper supplies and equipment to get the job done right. Bathrooms get really humid and require a 2-part epoxy paint in order to adhere to the surface without peeling.
